Downriver Family YMCA Schedules
- Dates: 3/7/24–4/25/24Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.
In this class, school-age swimmers will learn the following:
Stage Four: Front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke kick, butterfly kick, treading water, elementary backstroke.
Stage Five: Stroke technique, major competitive strokes, treading water and sidestroke.
Stage Six: Refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.
Participants must have completed stage 3 prior to registering for this class and be able to swim at least 25 yards on their own. - Dates: 3/7/24–4/25/24The Sea Monsters swim club is for kids ages 8-12 who are transitioning from swim lessons to the sport of swimming. Coaches refine the participants skills in the four competitive strokes. Participants will learn stroke drills, competitive turns, dives and streamlines all whiles improving their strength and endurance. Most importantly, kids on Sea Monsters will learn that success in swimming is about personal accomplishments and self improvement. Participants must be able to swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool) without stopping and have a basic knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes.

While Parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of adult supervision.

Activities, games, and drills, geared to reinforce learning, are utilized heavily as students progress in this skill-based

1h30mMosaic Class RegisterDates: 4/10/24–5/1/24Learn how to make your own mosaic piece for your home, garden, or for a gift. Students will learn the elements of design used to create a mosaic piece, layout techniques, and more. Learn about the various types of tesserae (mosaic pieces,) and techniques used for finishing the piece such as grouting.
Every student has the opportunity to leave with at least one mosaic piece.
