Are you looking for a wonderful way to celebrate International Woman’s Day today? Or maybe you just want to spend the weekend with some incredible music and gorgeous voices? Then you’re in luck–this weekend is the closing weekend of The Divas Project at the Marlene Boll Theater at the Boll Family YMCA.

The cabaret-style show springs from the creative mind of Plowshares Theater Company’s artistic director, Gary Anderson. He says, “The inspiration was the phenomenal female singers we have in Detroit and the fact that many African American women singers have created the anthems or expressed the ideas and emotions of women since the early 1960s. Their music has charted the women’s movement and the desire for equal rights in this country. When Aretha sings “Respect”, she speaking for all women. When Chaka Khan shouts “I’m Every Woman” she is stating her solidarity with all of her sisters. These songs help to communicate a great deal.”

The show features singers Chelly K, Audrey Northington, and Ashaki Zielger, and this week’s performances will also feature Detroit legend Thornetta Davis. Songs include “Midnight Train to Georgia,” “Mood Indigo” and “At Last.”

Tonight’s curtain is at 7:30, while Saturday’s are 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday’s matinee is at 2 p.m. Tickets are available via the Plowshares Theater website and range between $31.50 to $38.

This weekend is your last chance to catch this remarkable show — don’t miss it!
