Donor Privacy Policy

This Donor Privacy Policy explains our privacy practices that specifically relate to donors. It is supplemental to our general Privacy Statement (at http://ymcadetroit.org/privacy/), which explains our privacy practices generally. Donors should refer to this Donor Policy and the general Privacy Statement for a complete understanding of our practices.

We will not sell, share or trade donors’ names or personal information with third-party advertisers, and will not send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations. Except as described below, all personal information volunteered by donors as part of the donation process is for use by authorized employees, contractors, board members, advisors and volunteers for purposes related to YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, which may include processing donations, expressing appreciation and providing receipts, record keeping, reporting as required by law, internal analytic purposes, further contact with donors for additional fundraising, and donor recognition in YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit’s publicly displayed materials. There are circumstances where we will transfer and/or disclose donors’ personal information to third parties. Those circumstances, subject to the limits of applicable law, are as follows:

  • Parent, Subsidiaries and Affiliates: YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit may transfer personal information to its national resource office, parent, subsidiaries and corporate affiliates, and specifically, but without limiting the foregoing, to YMCA of the USA (collectively, “Related Parties”) for purposes related to its and Related Parties’ products and services as such offerings may change and develop over time.
  • The Site Consultants and Service Providers: YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit transfers personal information to third-party service providers that may be hosting or housing data on behalf of YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit or otherwise acting on its behalf as a data center (such as providers of hosting, cloud, technology outsourcing and support services). Additionally, YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit may disclose personal information to the extent that our service providers require access to our databases, or the information contained in our databases, to service YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.
  • Legal Compulsion and YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit’s Protection: YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit reserves the right to release personal information in accordance with applicable law in response to a subpoena or otherwise when we believe that the law requires us to do so, or when we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect and/or enforce the rights, property interests, or safety of YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, our users or others.
  • Reorganization or Sale of YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit: In the event that YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is merged with or becomes part of another organization, or in the event that YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is sold or it sells all or substantially all of its assets, or a brand or line of its business, the information you provide may be one of the transferred assets for use by the acquiring entity.
  • As Otherwise Allowed by Law: We may transfer personal information to third parties where we are expressly authorized by applicable law to do so.

YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit gives donors the opportunity to remain anonymous and to decline public and/or private recognition. Donors may request in writing that their names not be published in YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit materials or publicly (e.g., on donor lists).

YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit will make reasonable efforts to discontinue or change the method used to contact a donor after processing that person’s written request directed to YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

We reserve the right to change the Donor Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will note the most recent date of revision at the top of this policy.

This policy applies to all information received as part of the donation process by YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, both online and offline.

Online donations to YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit are processed by a third-party payment vendor who represents itself to be compliant with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit does not store credit card numbers after an online transaction has been completed. YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit cannot control how donor data is used by third-party service providers when an online donation is made to YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit via a third-party service provider. When using third-party sites you should review the privacy policies of such parties’ sites to understand how they collect and use personal information.
