Afterschool Meal Program

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), when the school day ends, many young people are at risk of going hungry. The Y ensures that kids are nourished in our Afterschool care programs to guarantee they have access to meals during this critical out-of-school time. The Y Nourish Team is currently providing free, healthy meals to kids at 10 Afterschool programs across the tri-county area and at our Boll Family YMCA Early Learning Center in partnership with Diamond Hospitality.

Food and Fun

To ensure that access to quality foods and enrichment is available to all families, Y Nourish “pops up” at parks, green spaces, and a variety of other community partner sites to provide meals and programming like sports, wellness, nutrition education, and snack building. Children receive a healthy meal and an opportunity to have fun! Programs are free and open to the community.

Our Kitchen

In 2018 the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit opened a self-operational kitchen, to push the envelope on food quality for youth, prioritizing fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and a creative menu. Utilizing this space, the Y is able to ensure our meal programs meet or exceed the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards outlined by YMCA of the USA.
