Besides increasing strength throughout the body, rock climbing helps develop balance and coordination. With the sport of climbing, you can improve endurance and feel an excitement that comes with this unique kind of challenge.

At our Ys, kids can safely learn the techniques and skills of climbing on our indoor rock walls.

Rock Wall at the Boll Family YMCA

The Boll Family YMCA climbing wall features a totally natural, seamless rock face with climbing routes set for beginners through advanced climbers. Safety equipment is provided (a harness with safety ropes), and trained safety staff who can teach you the basics. The climbing wall is open when a safety instructor is on site. The rock wall can also be rented for parties and special events.

The Downriver Family YMCA climbing wall features a totally natural, seamless rock face with climbing routes set for beginners through advanced climbers. Safety equipment is provided (a harness with safety ropes), and trained safety staff who can teach you the basics. The rock wall can also be rented for parties and special events. The Downriver Family YMCA also offers rock climbing classes for kids and teens ages 4-17.

Children will learn safety, technique, and climbing basics in a fun and safe environment. Rock climbing builds confidence while developing motor skills, patience, problem solving and determination!
(We will not have class the week of February 18 – February 24 due to Mid-Winter Break)
