Last week it was my honor to spend time with a former Chief Justice for the State of Michigan, Conrad Mallett.
Justice Mallett spoke with high regard of the impact the YMCA had on his personal life while growing up in Detroit.
He mentioned programming and in particular, how programming at the Y is special.
I found myself subconsciously counting the number of times Conrad used the adjectives, ethical, professional, consistency, and safety, giving credit to the Y’s way of programming for his personal character development.
These are times when some seem to be losing faith in social service institutions, questioning their purpose or mission. Yet, I can proudly hear one more time, Justice Mallett’s four words, ethical, professional, consistency, safety, and say, here at the Y, we steadfastly hold these values dear, for the purpose of accomplishing our mission…
