Child Watch is a free service for all YMCA members. Presently, child watch is open at the South Oakland YMCA and it will be opening Sunday March 1, 2020.

Child Watch provides a safe place for children to learn and play while their parent/guardian exercise at the YMCA. We comply with all CDC and Michigan health department guidelines to keep people safe in our facilities. Child Watch hours of operation will vary by branch and children may remain in child watch for a maximum of 2 hours.

Free preschool is available for 4 year olds

Free pre-school is available for 4 year olds from low moderate and high income families at the Boll Family YMCA located in downtown Detroit. Michigan residency is the only residency requirement. It does not matter if the child has not previously attended school. The child must however be potty trained and age 4 by last December 1, 2020. Lastly, the parent’s household income must not exceed $104,000. This is a great way to ensure your 4 year old enters school ready to learn.  Learn if you qualify here.

Our childcare centers located at our Farmington YMCA and our Boll YMCA are enrolling children today ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age.  Our centers comply with all CDC and state health department guidelines to keep children and families safe. Social Responsibility

February is packed with opportunities to learn, love, and live.

LEARN – African History Month gives us an opportunity to learn about the many contributions African Americans have given society. This occasion was started in 1925 as the brainchild of Carter G. Woodson. Learn more here.

LOVE – Valentines Day beckons us to let our loved ones know we care. There are many speculations on the origins of the holiday and who was the real St. Valentine. Check out the History Channel report for more.

You can also show our children you love them by running with your heart as we tackle 26.2 in 28 days in the Love2Run Virtual Marathon benefiting Girls on the Run of Greater Detroit. Not only will you support girls in your community, you’ll receive the limited edition GOTR Love2Run marathon medal. Register today

LIVE – Heart Health Month is a call to action for all Americans to take preventive and intervention action to eradicate the leading cause of death in the US–Heart disease, according to the CDC. The YMCA can be your heart health partner. Visit your local YMCA; we are safe, clean, fun and welcoming. Learn more from the CDC on how you can keep your heart healthy today.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is committed to community. In 2019 we established a commitment to Diversity Inclusion Equity and Global work. It is our aim to help create healthier communities through a host of informative and interactive virtual and eventually (when it is safe), in person activities and programs to help strengthen our community. Beginning with African American History Month February 2021, we will kickoff celebrating the diverse groups of people that contribute to our world. Watch our posts each week to learn more about African Americans. Next month, our focus is Women’s History.

In the Community

The YMCA continues to distribute meals in the community. Here is our current 2021 schedule.
