Whether they were bouncing a basketball, being captivated by a magic trick, or learning how to properly brush their teeth, kids were energized by their experiences during Healthy Kids Day. The Livonia Family YMCA celebrated Healthy Kids Day in April, allowing children and their families to experience some of the activities the Y offers, as well as connect with community organizations.

Crafts, gymnastics and a personal training strength course were a few of the activities. New this year, was a pool-ferry ride. Additionally, this free event allowed families to use Y amenities like the pool and fitness center.

Also on hand providing tips about good dental health was Pediatric Dental Specialists, the sponsor of the event. “This type of community event is reliant on the generosity of organizations like Pediatric Dental Specialists,” said Brian Wolverton, Executive Director of the Livonia Family YMCA. “The Y is grateful for their support and their commitment to the community.”

“Everything during the Healthy Kids Day event centered around fitness, family and health-centered activities,” continued Wolverton. “We believe a visit to the Y is the best way for families from Livonia and the surrounding area to really understand what the Y offers.

“Pediatric Dental Specialists was proud to sponsor Healthy Kids Day,” Dr. Hassan Oueis. “The Livonia Y staff and everyone at our practice have a shared passion for children and put the health and welfare of children at the forefront of what we do. This was a natural partnership for us.”

Healthy Kids Day was also a chance for parents to tour the Y and hear about summer day camp opportunities. The Livonia Family YMCA runs 12 weeks of summer day camp, with a variety of programs and activities that stimulate both mind and body.

“It’s important for children to be active and to continue learning new skills throughout the summer months,” said Wolverton. “Day camp at the Y provides kids with adventure, healthy fun, personal growth and new friendships that last long past the summer.”
