The dining hall is one of the most frequented buildings at YMCA Camp Nissokone. It’s where campers come together to share meals, form friendships, and reflect on the experiences of camp with one another.
Camp Nissokone has become such a popular summer destination that, earlier this year, it set up a fundraising site to raise $20,000 to expand its dining hall, which could no longer accommodate its 250 campers on a weekly basis. Although growth is a good problem to have, it was a problem nonetheless.
Nissokone would use the funds raised to add a large porch that would allow visitors to enjoy the surrounding beauty and picturesque setting at camp. With the expanded space by adding the porch, campers could also all enjoy activities and meals together, adding to the camaraderie that makes up the magic of camp.
The funds were raised in less than a month! Half of the funding was raised by alumni, passionate camp supporters and staff; the other half was funded through a YMCA of the USA matching grant. In total, $22,182 was raised to support the project.
The deck was completed late July. Campers and staff are excited to put it to good use for the rest of the camping season!
