Making Everyday Better Though Volunteering
In June of 2021, the YMCA of metro Detroit launched a rejuvenated volunteer program. Although we launched the new program officially in June. Many of our volunteers have been giving their time long before then. What was the biggest difference? How we register volunteers and how we keep track of the invaluable time given to the Y.
For the first time, volunteers register through our website. Volunteers also now have an account with a log-in and can see volunteer opportunities available at any time! For more information about volunteering with the Y or available opportunities visit ymcadetroit.org/volunteer

Barton Malow Community Week
On August 6th, our friends from Barton Malow came to the South Oakland YMCA to help run the Day Camp Carnival! 24 volunteers came out as part of Barton Malows “Community Week” and what fun we all had! Face painting, bounce housing, ring tossing and of course snow cones and cotton candy were included in this carnival. Kids could play games to redeem tickets for prizes. We can’t thank Barton Malow enough for their time!

Women Run the D: Detroit Women’s Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K : VOLUNTEER HERE
Our very own Girls on the Run Council is one of the featured charities for the 2021 Women Run the D Half Marathon! We need your help! We need 10 individuals to volunteer for our GOTR Aid station. As a volunteer you will hand out water and cheer on the amazing women running in this event! The run will take place on September 12th at Belle Isle.
