Over the years, the Redic family has become part of the family at the Farmington Family YMCA. Braeden, now 7; Simone, 10; and Micah, 12; have been coming to Camp Riley through at Farmington Family YMCA for years.

One of Braeden and Micah’s favorite activities during the week is kickball, during Free Choice Monday. Though various academic and recreational activities are scheduled throughout the camp week, each Monday, campers choose from a list of special activities. The Redics are enthusiastic every day at camp, but Free Choice time provides campers like Braeden, Micah, and Simone, choice as well as the ability to spend time with with other campers and counselors that they may not have the opportunity to spend as much time with throughout the rest of the week.

In addition to kickball, Braeden was quick to point out that he loves anything with physical activity–gym games and playing outside are some of his other favorite things to participate in. Though physical activity is his favorite, Braeden also enjoys math. He was happy to share that coming to camp was an easy transition this summer because he already knew several other campers from previous years and some of them even go to his school during the school year, but that he has also made new friends this summer too!

Simone on the other hand, enjoys DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time the most during the week. When asked which type of books are her favorite, she said, “dog books”. Simone also enjoys recess and Free Choice time like her brothers.

In these last couple of weeks at camp, Micah has transitioned into the Teen Camp at Camp Michigama, the other Farmington YMCA Camp, where he will be taking his social and academic skills further by learning life skills such as cooking, changing a tire, and completing service projects to help others in need.

It has been fun watching the Redics come back year after year, developing into the great people that they are sure to become!
