Become a Changemaker

Project Deadline Extended: March 21, 2022, at 11:59 pm PT

Thanks to support from Amazon, the Y is offering high school students (grades 9-12) in selected cities around the country the opportunity to propose a project that addresses a critical issue/need in their communities.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is looking for two high school students in grades 9-12 to represent our region in this national competition. The incredible pair will be awarded the opportunity to attend a national conference with other young leaders and the possibility of their project being awarded $5,000.

If you and a friend are in grades 9-12 and have a great idea to make our world better; please submit your great idea today. The issue or need you select is entirely up to you but should be directly connected to your local community – it can have national/global importance but must have a specific local context.

Project Timeline

Interested high school students can work together to design and submit a Changemakers Project to their local Y prior to the submission deadline of Monday, February 28, 2022.

Deadline Extended: March 21, 2022, at 11:59 pm PT

Your project will need two (2) Project Leaders but can be supported by as many additional students as needed.

Each participating Y will have until Thursday, March 31, 2022 to select one (1) project from their community to attend our national conference in D.C.

National Conference

June 15-17, 2022 | Washington, D.C.

If your project is selected to represent your community, your two Project Leaders will be
accompanied by local YMCA Staff on an all-expenses paid trip to present your proposal during the final 3 days of the YMCA Youth
Governors Conference in Washington, D.C.

During the conference, our YMCA Youth Governors will choose three projects to receive $5,000 in funding.

Submit a project

To submit your project for consideration by your local Y, all project leaders must complete Two(2)steps https://ymca.quorum.us/changemakers:

Step 1: Project Leader Registration

Both Project Leaders must submit this registration form individually. Your project will not be considered by your local Y without submission of this registration form by both of your leaders

Step 2: Project Proposal

After completing Step 1 individually, both Project Leaders should then work together to submit their Project Proposal.

Deadline Extended: March 21, 2022, at 11:59pm PT

(Deadline has been extended it was February 28)

Your project must be led by two (2) student Project Leaders. Additional students from your community are encouraged to join the project (no limit on participants!), but only the two project leaders will register, submit the proposal, and represent the project if selected by your local YMCA.

We will notify our local Y winners by March 31, 2022, to select the project leaders that will represent the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in Washington D.C., confirm your travel arrangements, and complete conference registration provided by Y-USA.
