Youth Volunteer Corps teens from Plymouth, Farmington, and Downriver YMCAs participated in a great weekend of community service at Camp Ohiyesa this weekend, and we wanted to share some photos from the project!
This weekend project was made possible with support from YVC and the Sunderland Foundation through their Big Build Grant, that provides funds for building projects to encourage youth to go into skilled trades. Our Y was awarded a grant for $11,500 for this project and we were able to use the funding to improve our camps and to provide a weekend of service for 54 teens! Teens worked on building a new fence for the horse pasture, clearing trails for horseback riding, and moving and reinstalling the wiffle ball court.
Thank you to Ryan and the camp staff for providing plenty of work, fun activities, delicious meals, and housing for the weekend. Thank you to our YVC coordinators, Taylor Tinsley (Plymouth, Farmington) and Sharon Karpinski (Downriver) for working together to organize this event!
We look forward to having more YMCA branches becoming YVC affiliates this year and watching this program grow!
