During the month of April, we recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month (NCAPM) and the importance of communities working together to help families thrive and prevent child maltreatment. This month and throughout the year, the YMCA encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making metro Detroit a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote the social and emotional well-being of children and youth and prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.

The YMCA is committed to providing a safe environment for every person who enters our doors, most importantly children who are entrusted to our care. As an organization, we take specific steps to keep kids safe in our Y facilities, camps and programs through screening, training, reporting, and auditing. All staff and volunteers in the YMCA are thoroughly screened, trained to recognize and report abuse, and multiple avenues are available for anonymous reporting.
