The Farmington Family YMCA would like to recognize one of our amazing members who has overcome tremendous challenges.
Harvey joined the Farmington Family YMCA in January. He had recently spent the previous nine months in a rehab hospital overcoming some complications due to surgery. When he joined he had just started walking again with the support of a walker. From his first day at the Y, Harvey’s positive attitude and commitment to getting better was contagious. He’s been exercising three days a week and has significantly increased his strength and mobility. He now only uses a cane instead of the walker he once relied upon.
One of the first times we talked with Harvey, he said “I’m a bull; I may not be able to now, but soon I will be able to run through that wall.” Anyone who has faced the challenges that Harvey did could have easily thrown in the towel and given up.
Harvey is a huge Detroit Lions fan and has attended the Lions home opener for 45 years. When he first joined the Y he said he will be ready to walk down the steps to his seats in the Fall. After witnessing the hard work and commitment Harvey has put in, there is no doubt you will continue to see him in his seats on the 40 yard line!
Harvey’s story is one of many that make our community here at the YMCA great. If you are experiencing hard times and need a new chapter in your life, we are here for you.
